Driving licence B: Training moment for coaches

• Mandatory info session of 3h15 for coaches
• You are registered in Belgium and hold a Belgian identity card.
• You have been in possession of a Belgian or European driving licence for 8 years or more, that is valid for at least category B.
• Your driving licence must not be expired (or have been expired) from the right to drive during the last 3 years.
• To be taken at least 5 months before the candidate driver’s practical test.
• Without test

Since 1 March 2024, the training moment is mandatory for coaches of candidate drivers who apply for a provisional driving licence with coach.

This means that, as a coach, you must have attended the training moment at least five months before your candidate driver’s practical test.

In the following cases, the training moment is also mandatory, but the 5-month time limit does not apply:

• coaches of candidate drivers with a driving licence M12 with a start date for practice before 01/03/2024 (date on the back of the provisional driving licence).

• coaches of candidate drivers who changed the provisional driving licence M18 to a provisional driving licence M36, with start date of training before 01/03/2024 (date on back of provisional driving licence).

For candidate drivers who hold a provisional M18 driving licence, this does not apply as they can take to the road on their own with a certificate of competence.

Checklist for the training moment

Take the following into account to ensure everything goes smoothly

• Make sure you have the ‘Itsme’ app installed and tested on your smartphone.
• If you are attending a classroom training session, take traffic and parking possibilities into account.
• If you follow an online training moment, keep in mind that a functioning computer with camera and microphone is mandatory. It is not possible to follow the training moment with a smartphone. You are also responsible for a stable internet connection.
• Arrive at least 15 minutes in advance to register your attendance. Registration is done via a government time-based application. Once the training has started, you cannot be admitted, you will not receive a certificate and you will have to re-register and pay again.

If you have already taken a training moment between 1 October 2017 and 12 March 2020, the certificate obtained is still valid (10 years in total). You must present it on the day of the practical test. In case of loss, you can request a duplicate from the driving school office where you took the training.
